The history of Graffiti in Queens is rich and vast; stretching back to the five decades plus inception of this subculture’s notoriety onto the public consciousness. The lack of proper documentation, both on the visual and written front, have left a missing gulf of knowledge regarding the Q-borough’s contribution to the canon of Graffiti in NYC. The aim of this show is to showcase writers from all the different generations that represented this outlaw art form, from the 1970’s/1980’s train era to the 1990’s/Aughties street and highways bombing to current day participants carrying the torch. You’ll find a wide range of thematic content in the exhibit: traditional graffiti pieces interspersed with more abstract images as well as model trains and assorted mixed media displays that reflect the idiosyncratic spirit of its creators.

Downtown galleries were the first to put on exhibits in the early days so it’s only appropriate that the circle is complete by Village Works in the East Village allowing the use of their space to display these writers, thank you to them and the show’s participants, please enjoy the selected works.
